"Why do you have a picture of Jabba The Hutt on your license?"... Yes I need to lose a little weight. I am working on it!
My name is Ron Keys. I was born in 1968 in St. Catharines, Ontario to Marie Jeremy-Keys and Woodrow Keys. I have spent most of my life in Edmonton, Alberta.
I am an Aboriginal Canadian. More specifically a Mi'kmaq Indian and a member of the Glooscap First Nation in Hantsport, Nova Scotia. My most notable distant relative is Louis Jeremy. He plays an integral part in the preservation of the Mi'kmaq culture. His pieces of work range from woven baskets to violins and canoes. Many of his creations can still be found around the Maritimes and in Maine. I encourage you to google him.
I have always enjoyed drawing as far back as I can remember. Some of my early pieces, on my mother's walls, were not well received. My painting career was short lived in my early twenties. My last piece was called "Spirit Leaves the Body" and dedicated to my grandfather Charles Jeremy after his passing. An unfortunate interaction with an art gallery and the onset of my anxiety and panic disorder left me unwilling and unable to paint any more pieces.
With the recent recession in the local economy and the impact of Covid-19 I have rediscovered my passion for painting. No longer dealing with the debilitating affects of anxiety and panic disorder I can draw upon emotions needed to jump start my creativity.
